At brunch the other day, I learned through the grapevine that a relative "bitches" about Venus Matters.
After my initial shock, I thought: Well, at least she's talking about it.
It’s not the first time I’ve encountered judgment about why Venus Matters, and it certainly won’t be the last. Like any resistance we encounter, it gave me an opportunity to tap into the heart of our mission.
It’s more important than ever to talk about women’s pleasure & sovereignty.
These days, thankfully, period poverty is gaining more attention. Now some half-dozen states require schools to provide free products to help girls struggling with menstrual hygiene.
Awareness about maternal mortality rates in the USA is growing —and urgently needs to be addressed— so mothers can finally get the support they deserve before, during, and after giving birth.
Menopause is definitely having a “moment” but it shouldn’t just be seen as a powerful new profit center. It’s a rite of passage that far too many women are frightened by and unprepared to traverse (I’m on the other side, and I can attest: it’s ultimately hugely liberating).
Venus Matters was born to help shine a light on women’s issues which have been kept secret for too long. We wanted to create a practical and beautiful product to help people see that body fluids aren’t shameful or disgusting— they provide the ebb and flow of life itself.
Women deserve all the extra attention, added pleasure, and principled entrepreneurship they can get.
They also deserve the right to choose.
We’re keeping the faith that the USA will see a massive woman-powered election this fall to combat the terrible backwards slide on women’s rights in this country.
And while we’re working behind the scenes on our next level Venus Mat, we’re proud to be supporting anyone who dares to claim their own in bed and beyond.
No matter how uncomfortable or difficult it may be, we’re shouting it from the roof top: Venus Matters and you do too.
